Frequently asked questions

Fair trade coffee is a certification system that confirms that coffee farmers receive fair pay above a fair trade minimum threshold and also that fair trade coffee cooperatives are democratically run for the benefit of their members. The core mission of fair trade coffee is to improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers by ensuring fair trade practices and promoting sustainable development.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is produced by a single coffee growing cooperative in a single country. This differs from coffee blends which typically include multiple different coffees (usually from different countries) that are combined to produce a specific flavor profile. Single origin coffees showcase the specific taste of coffee from a given location (terroir) and have distinctive flavors particular to their country or region of origin.

Single origin coffee is not better or worse than blended coffee. In most cases they are simply different – single origins feature the flavors of a specific location and blends are created to have a distinctive flavor profile that cannot be obtained with a single coffee alone.
