Notes of caramel apple and roasted nuts

This delightful fair trade organic coffee is grown at approximately 4,000 feet in the lush Nueva Segovia region, near Nicaragua's northern border with Honduras. We use a gentle medium roast to optimize the distinctive flavor notes of sweet caramel apple and roasted nuts in this clean, bright coffee.

The cooperative that produces this superb fair trade organic coffee is committed to the highest quality standards, and it shows. In 2005, co-op members participated in the Nicaraguan coffee cupping competition known as The Cup of Excellence, in which the cooperative was awarded first place overall and three of the top ten quality awards.

With revenue from its fair trade sales, the cooperative supports many social and quality control programs, including:

  • Providing dozens of scholarships for members۪ children that allow many to attend primary and secondary school. Books and backpacks have been provided to over 2,000 students.
  • Building numerous maintenance facilities for de-pulping machines, a dry mill, and three storage warehouses.
  • A revolving social fund to build and improve members۪ homes, provide disaster relief and healthcare, and implement necessary infrastructure projects.
  • The creation of a quality control center and cupping lab to help develop and maintain their high standards.

Our coffee is Fair Trade certified according to the Fair for Life standard, Organic Certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and grown in shaded conditions by small farmer cooperatives. In addition, the complete carbon footprint (from crop to cup) for our coffee has been offset with tree planting, which qualifies it as a CarbonFree Certified product by CarbonFund.org. All of our coffee is roasted to order and shipped fresh daily. We package in air-tight, foil-lined bags with one-way degassing valves to preserve freshness.
