Description

This fair trade organic Guatemalan coffee is grown in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, the highest mountain range in Central America, located in a part of the Huehuetenango region that enjoys the rich volcanic soil necessary for premium organic coffee cultivation. Gently roasted to a Medium level, it is a delightfully structured coffee that is sweet and well-balanced with a lively brightness, resonant finish and distinctive notes of maple syrup, dark chocolate and raspberry.

The cooperative Coordinadora de Organizaciones de Desarrollo de Concepcion Huista (better known as CODECH) has nearly 500 members and produces some of the finest fair trade organic coffees in all of Guatemala. Varieties grown include Caturra, Bourbon, Catuai and Pache which are washed and sun-dried by the individual producers.

CODECH initiated a micro-lot program in 2012 and each spring they hold an internal cupping competition to focus on continuous quality improvement by their members. This year, we were able to obtain a micro-lot of very high scoring coffee produced by Ludin Tello.

Our Coffee

Our coffee is Fair Trade certified according to the Fair for Life standard, Organic Certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and grown in shaded conditions by small farmer cooperatives. In addition, the complete carbon footprint (from crop to cup) for our coffee has been offset with tree planting, which qualifies it as a CarbonFree Certified product by CarbonFund.org. All of our coffee is roasted to order and shipped fresh daily. We package in air-tight, foil-lined bags with one-way degassing valves to preserve freshness.
