Sweet notes of vanilla, plum and blackberry

This fair trade organic coffee is grown at 5,000-6,000 feet in the mountains surrounding Lake Kivu in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Smooth and sweet with a silky medium body, this coffee features notes of vanilla, plum and blackberry that are highlighted by our gentle medium roast.

Operating in the middle of an ongoing civil war, the fair trade coffee cooperative has nonetheless implemented measures to control erosion and improve soil quality through composting and mulching. They have grown from just 350 members in 2009 to over 4,300 today and nearly half of the cooperative's members are women. The co-op invests the fair trade premium back into infrastructure, most notably in two new central coffee washing stations and a cupping lab.

Our coffee is Fair Trade certified according to the Fair for Life standard, Organic Certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and grown in shaded conditions by small farmer cooperatives. In addition, the complete carbon footprint (from crop to cup) for our coffee has been offset with tree planting, which qualifies it as a CarbonFree Certified product by CarbonFund.org. All of our coffee is roasted to order and shipped fresh daily. We package in air-tight, foil-lined bags with one-way degassing valves to preserve freshness.
