Peru "Café Femenino"
baking chocolate • roasted nuts
Description
Out of Peru comes a story of strength, unity and hope. A specialty coffee called "Café Femenino" has evolved that is changing the role of women in rural coffee communities. Female coffee growers have become better educated, organized, and for the first time are producing women's coffee as a specialty commodity. This fair trade and organic certified coffee is grown, processed and traded exclusively by women. The women then decide how to use the additional funds to better their lives and those of their children. Click here to read the full story of Café Femenino.
Grounds for Change donates 10 cents for each pound of Café Femenino Peru sold directly back to this women's coffee growing project.
Peru "Café Femenino" is a medium-bodied fair trade organic coffee with a fine acidity, sweet aroma and hints of baking chocolate that are accentuated by a slow, dark roast. We know that you will enjoy this unique coffee for its wonderful taste as well as for the special story that underlies its production. The cooperative uses fair trade funds for community reinvestment into water reservoirs, irrigation systems, wet mill improvements and early education centers.
Our Coffee
Our coffee is Fair Trade certified according to the Fair for Life standard, Organic Certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and grown in shaded conditions by small farmer cooperatives. In addition, the complete carbon footprint (from crop to cup) for our coffee has been offset with tree planting, which qualifies it as a CarbonFree Certified product by CarbonFund.org. All of our coffee is roasted to order and shipped fresh daily. We package in air-tight, foil-lined bags with one-way degassing valves to preserve freshness.
