DESCRIPTION
This extremely rare coffee grows wild in the high mountain jungle of the Toraja region in Sulawesi, a large island in the Indonesian Archipelago. These ancient wild coffee trees have very low yield and are direct descendents of the original Ethiopian coffee plants that were brought to Sulawesi over 250 years ago.
The coffee trees are fully shaded by virgin jungle and the beans are relatively small with a unique flavor not found in other Toraja coffees that are derived from newer variety plantings. With no roads through the high mountain jungle, it takes as long as 4 days on horseback to bring the coffee down to the valley for processing.
Featuring exotic notes of clove, coffee blossoms and sweet chocolate, this coffee has a rich, full body with low acidity and a long, lingering finish. As only 300 to 600 bags can be produced each crop year, this coffee is truly the crown jewel of all Toraja coffees.
This coffee is Fair Trade Certified by TransFairUSA, Organic Certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and grown in shaded conditions by small farmer cooperatives.
All of our coffee is roasted to order and shipped fresh daily. We package in air-tight, foil-lined bags with one-way degassing valves to preserve freshness.
